God has sent us on a mission
The life of a Christian is designed to be active. God calls us not just to believe, but to follow the example set by his son, Jesus Christ, to be sent into the world. The church has been sent with a mission to share the gospel and live as Christ’s ambassadors so the world can see the power of God’s kingdom. This mission is central to our being. Many scripture passages describe this mission; here are a few of our favourites:
- Matthew 28:18-20 (“The Great Commission”)
- John 17:18 (We’ve been sent into the world)
- Matthew 24:14 (We’re called to preach the gospel to all nations)
- Matthew 25:31-46 (We’re on a mission to meet people’s needs)
- John 20:21 (The mission is central to our identity as Christians)
Following God’s call to be in the world
We’re thankful for the community we’re in, and strive to play an active role in it. Here are some of the things we’re up to in the neighbourhood:
Serve is a seven-day mission project that invited high school students, from Canada and the U.S., to New Street CRC to care for people in Burlington. This year, the students were sent around the city to show compassion for the marginalized, care for creation, provide recreation for children, perform acts of kindness, and share the gospel. Serve is about joining with God in the renewal of all things. But it’s not just a week-long trip it’s about experiencing transformation that lasts a lifetime!
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
A summer day camp designed to share the gospel with our neighbourhood families.
A weekly club for adults with mental impairments.
Collecting food donations
We support the Partnership West Food Bank.
Every Christmas morning we share the Good News through song at Joseph Brant Hospital.
Participating in global mission
Our involvement in the world extends beyond Burlington. Many of our youth and adults travel North America and around the world to be the feet and hands of Jesus.
